Skybox Datacenters, an expert mission-critical data center owner, operator, and developer, announced today it has commenced the redevelopment of a new data center site: Skybox Chicago I, in a unique joint venture with Prologis, Inc.

The site will boast a 30 megawatt (MW), 189,000-square-foot facility in the heart of Elk Grove Village in Chicago. Skybox Chicago I is within the region’s most established colocation and hyperscale data center submarket, providing seamless interconnect and unparalleled expansion capabilities.

The Chicago market is one of the nation’s primary peering and interconnection hubs featuring excellent proximity to cloud providers and exchanges as well as substantial network availability to major metros. The new site provides exceptional accessibility, located just 22 miles from downtown Chicago and nine miles from O’Hare International Airport.

In addition to Chicago’s low energy costs and access to 100% renewable power, Skybox Chicago I is designed to allow users to benefit from the Illinois Sales Tax Incentives approved and implemented in October of 2019. These tax exemptions apply to both data center construction and purchased IT equipment, reducing the cost for data center customers to deploy large-scale footprints in Illinois.

“Skybox is thrilled to work with a powerhouse like Prologis,” says Rob Morris, CEO of Skybox Datacenters. “Our partnership will bring together two very important roles: Skybox will provide leading data center development and leasing expertise while Prologis will bring substantial holdings in the local Chicago market and throughout the United States.
