Critical Facilities Technician II

Job Description

The Critical Facilities Technician II (CFT2) will report directly to the Critical Facilities Manager. The CFT2 is responsible for operation and maintenance of the data center to enable maximum efficiency without disturbance to business for our customers. This role participates with an unwavering positive attitude and commitment to safety and reliability within the data center. The CFT2 drives continual improvements to the operational excellence of the data center by adhering to company standards, client requirements and industry best practices. This person has a mindset of consistent learning and development as they help create a more efficient mission critical environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain critical and non-critical data center infrastructure, equipment, and systems
  • Work with a team of CFTs to deliver 100% uptime while minimizing risks
  • Monitor and manage power, cooling capacity, and environmental conditions within the data halls
  • Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as a tool to manage all planned and unplanned data center work
  • Perform preventive maintenance on data center electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Assist with the development, revision, and execution of approximately 200 operating procedures and preventive maintenance inspections, and perform quality control reviews to ensure accuracy, clarity, and continual improvement
  • Assist with the development of data center standards and policies when necessary
  • Resolve all electrical and mechanical issues within the data center quickly while minimizing risk and properly communicate issues to the appropriate chain of command
  • Respond to emergencies and critical issues as necessary (both independently and as a team), according to staffing and situation, towards complete recovery
  • Troubleshoot and document technical issues, escalates as appropriate, and ensure issue resolution
  • Assist with planning and implementation of all corrective issues
  • Assist and/or complete physical and logical installations
  • Maintain accurate facility data including rounds, PM work orders, change management, etc.
  • Maintain strict adherence to change control activities
  • Manage assigned workflow tasks to provide timely turnaround
  • Escort and work effectively with outside contractors, ensure they are abiding by critical facility work rules
  • Complete facility rounds at the beginning of each shift to ensure data center and grounds upkeep
  • Follow Skybox policies and procedures
  • Participate in facility training programs on a regular basis
  • Assist in facility operations, as required
  • Participate in construction and commissioning, as directed by the CFM
  • Work shifts to support data center operations and have flexibility in work hours to cover other shifts as needed
  • On call emergency support as required
  • Keep facility clean and free of debris, including overseeing property management such as janitorial services and landscaping
  • Adhere to all federal and local safety laws
  • Perform other work and special projects as assigned by Skybox Leadership team

EDUCATION OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Prior military or technical school training, preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience working in mission critical environments, preferred
  • Experience with building electrical, mechanical, BMS and fire systems, preferred
  • Electrical or mechanical license (HVAC), preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • 12 hour shifts and/or night shifts 3 or 4 days a week, additional 10% differential for pay
  • Work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels
  • May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions
  • Exposure to mild chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards
  • Occasional nights and weekend work outside of normal shift to ensure optimal critical facilities environment
  • Moderate physical labor is required. May lift 45 pounds or more, use fingers and hands, work on varying heights and ladders, crouch or crawl, and walk uneven terrain on job sites
